Argentina registers 638 deaths from Covid-19 in 24 hours

Buenos Aires. Argentina reported this Monday a sharp jump in the number of daily deaths from Covid-19, registering 638 deaths in the last 24 hours, almost double that registered on Sunday with 348.

This data represents the fourth highest daily number of deaths since the start of the pandemic in the country, on March 3, 2020, only behind the deaths registered on May 18 (745), May 21 (695) and last May 5 (663).

According to the daily report of the Argentine Ministry of Health, the country also recorded 28 infections of the disease, bringing the total numbers to three million 175 cases and 781 deaths from coronavirus.

Seven thousand 325 patients were also placed in intensive care units, the maximum number so far, with an occupancy percentage of 77.4 percent nationwide and 76.9 percent in the city of Buenos Aires and its periphery.

According to the agency, there are 353 people who are suffering from the disease and 89 have been discharged.

In the last 24 hours, 87 tests were carried out, with a positivity of 48 percent, and in total 32.37 swabs have been performed.

The government has distributed 15 million 373 thousand 890 vaccines against Covid-19 since last December 29 and 12 million 415 thousand 197 doses were applied: nine million 599 thousand 885 corresponding to the first dose and two million 815 thousand 312 to the second , according to the Public Vaccination Monitor.

In this regard, the Chief of Staff, Santiago Cafiero, said that the current vaccination campaign is the “largest that has been carried out in the country.”

The Minister of Health, Carla Vizzotti, anticipated in the same instance that on Wednesday there will be a meeting of the National Immunization Commission, from which “recommendations will emerge on how vaccination will continue.”

Argentina is under different restrictions until June 11 in the most critical areas to mitigate the spread of the disease.
