The last phase of vaccination against Covid-19 in Mexico corresponding to children between 5 and 11 years old will begin with registration next Thursday, June 16, reported Hugo López-Gatell, Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion.

This process will be on the website https://mivacuna.salud.gob.mx.

In a press conference from the National Palace, the federal official explained that a contract was signed with the pharmaceutical company Pfizer to acquire 8 million doses.

The arrival of the vaccine for children will begin on June 24 and the application model will be by municipalities in health centers and in some cases special units will be enabled, López-Gatell explained.

“The modality will be mainly in health centers but also in some temporary units such as macrocenters and other special units. You have to pay attention to the call for each municipality, it will not be simultaneous for the entire country,” he said.

Pfizer/BioNTech has been testing its vaccine in children aged six months to five years. Children in this age group receive three doses of three micrograms each. For comparison, the vaccine schedule approved for children ages five to 11 consists of two doses of ten micrograms each, while older children and adults receive 30 micrograms per dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

In May 2022, Pfizer published results based on giving three doses to 1678 young children. They reported that the vaccine was well tolerated in this age group, with a safety profile similar to placebo.
