Ssa will present a new epidemiological traffic light this Friday

López-Gatell announced that even in red, the absolute closure of economic and social activities will not be imposed.

The Ministry of Health (Ssa) reported that it will present this Friday the Coronavirus Epidemic Risk Traffic Light in accordance with the new measurement parameters that allow the recovery of social and economic activities.

In a statement, the Ssa pointed out that this new measurement system prioritizes the health of the population and seeks to reduce the occurrence of serious cases of Covid-19.

Hugo López-Gatell, Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, explained that the new Traffic Light modality was built with contributions from the state health secretaries.

He said that the modifications to the Epidemic Risk Traffic Light recalibrate the risk scale and that, even in red, the absolute closure of economic and social activities is not imposed.

The official stated that the motivation for making the modification to the traffic light, which until a few weeks ago was based on the colors red (maximum), orange (high), yellow (medium) and green (low) is to have a less virulent epidemic.

“And, on the other hand, having a society that is reaching significant fatigue in all aspects, of special interest, public education,” he commented.

He stated that the National Vaccination Strategy has been a determining factor for the return to certain activities given the reduction in the probability of serious cases of the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus and hospitalization.

He recalled that immunization has contributed significantly to reducing the number of hospitalizations and making the epidemic less severe, but it does not mean that it has ended.

For this reason, he insisted, mitigation measures must be maintained such as the correct use of face masks, frequent hand washing, healthy distancing and avoiding going to crowded places.

Mexico has so far accumulated more than 2.7 million confirmed cases, and 237,629 deaths from coronavirus and has vaccinated 22.6 million people with the two doses necessary to complete the vaccination schedule.
